Summer Tennis Director


Job Description:

Tennis Director will oversee all aspects of the summer lesson program for the Sioux Falls Tennis Association.  The position will be part-time from approximately March through late August.  If interested, position may include some after school and diversity programs during the school year.  Position will require on court duties as well as administrative duties.


  • Understand the scope of the CTA to be able to see how the lesson component is incorporated.
  • Tennis ability with ROGY (10 & Under) tennis teaching background.  Required to attend a Recreational Coaches Workshop.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Creative: Plan age appropriate, stimulating activities for children ages 4-18.
  • Good Communication skills.
  • Ability to manage, supervise and control instructors as well as groups of children.
  • Flexible: Able to adapt schedule quickly to meet changing needs of lesson schedule.
  • Cooperative, motivated, dependable worker: Able to work with a team of people.
  • Passionate about reaching and exposing kids to tennis.


Lesson Program

  • Reports to SFTA Executive Director.
  • Formulate, revamp and follow lesson plans for the instructors using ROGY teaching methods.
  • Respond and answer all phone calls (March – August) related to the junior program in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for monitoring, supervising, disciplining instructors.
  • Work with instructors to make sure children are in the correct lessons (ability wise) and that lesson numbers are beneficial to all.
  • Collect and monitor time cards and perform payroll duties.
  • Work with on registration information.
  • Complete pertinent and required reports.
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings.
  • Make sure written communication is disseminated to parents/guardians.
  • Be available and prepared to respond to parental concerns.
  • Pursue and promote NJTL activities.
  • Work with Junior Team Tennis.
  • Report to the SFTA Board as needed.


Weber Tournament (Tournament Director)

  • Distribute and collect entry registrations.
  • Obtain prizes, t-shirts and other tournament equipment.
  • Work with instructors to prepare tournament draw.
  • Ensure the tournament is properly staffed and staff is knowledgeable.
  • Work with the media before, during and after the event.
  • Ensure the tournament stays within its budget.


Dependent upon experience and certifications.  Estimated total hours 25 hours/week (June – Aug) and a few hours per week from March – May.
